California internal medicine: credentialing questions for the actual role
Use this specialty-focused checklist to prepare questions and organize evidence, not as a statement that every employer imposes the same requirements. Credentialing, state authority and site privileges remain distinct decisions. Ask the receiving organization what it needs to verify and what remains outstanding before the appointment begins.
- Select the California application that matches your physician-license and postgraduate-training history, keeping the issued license separate from the employer’s readiness decision.
- Supply internal medicine training and current board status for the scope requested; name any additional certificate rather than presenting a broad subspecialty claim.
- Clarify whether the appointment includes admissions, cross-coverage, nights or only clinic care, and ask which site privileges apply.
- For temporary outpatient work, document the owner of messages, results and medication follow-up after your sessions end.
- For telemedicine or a second employer, check patient-state authority, schedule compatibility and malpractice coverage for the distinct appointment, not just access to its records system.
The underlying distinctions are described in the AMA credentialing, privileging and enrollment guidance. For remote work, consult HHS licensing across state lines; do not infer patient-state authority from an app account, a submitted application or an existing job.
