How Saile salary pages work
Every pay figure on Saile's salary guides comes from one public source, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This page explains what that data is, how we show it and what it does not tell you.
Where the numbers come from
Physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant and CRNA pages use the BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) program, May 2025 estimates. For each occupation and state we show the mean annual wage, the median annual wage, the employment estimate and the wage relative standard error that BLS publishes. Each page links to the official BLS data for that state.
We do not add survey data, recruiter figures, job-ad ranges or estimates of our own. If BLS does not publish a number for an occupation and state, or marks it as withheld, we do not fill it in.
How we show hourly and annual wages
BLS publishes hourly wage rates. Where a page shows an annual figure, it is the hourly rate multiplied by 2,080 hours, the way BLS annualizes. It is not a measured yearly earnings number.
What the figures do not cover
- OEWS counts wage and salary employees. It does not cover self-employed clinicians or independent contractors, so locum and 1099 pay can look very different.
- It is not total compensation. Benefits, malpractice coverage, signing bonuses, call pay and relocation are outside these figures.
- The mean and the median are two separate BLS estimates. They are not a salary range, and neither is an offer you should expect.
- The relative standard error shows how uncertain the estimate is. It is not a pay percentile.
- State figures hide big differences by city, employer, hours and subspecialty.
When it updates
BLS releases new OEWS estimates once a year. We update the pages after each release and keep the reference period (May 2025 today) on every page.
Reports from clinicians
We are collecting anonymous pay reports from clinicians through Report your pay. These are kept separate from the BLS figures and are not mixed into any salary page.
